Tips
There is a need to be conscious of how we handle and prepare our food. Pigs are the primary host of the Trichinella species that causes Trichinosis; a disease that affects people that eat undercooked or raw meat from infected animals. These tips should be a guide to preventing foodborne diseases:
- Remove all bracelets, watches or rings and keep them away from raw meat. Wash your hands with soap and water.
- The same cutting board and knife should not be used for raw meat and fresh food like vegetables and fruits.
- You can use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of your sausages before you remove them from the oven. The ideal temperature is 160-degree Fahrenheit for pork sausage and 165-degree Fahrenheit for chicken sausage. Make sure they are completely cooked before you remove them from the oven.
- Don’t use the same plate used for the raw sausage to serve the baked ones; instead, use a new plate.
